First-Time Failure

What is a Free Re-test?

If your vehicle fails its emissions test, you have 30 calendar days from the date of the initial test to have your vehicle's emissions problems fixed and pass the one-time free re-test (test number 2).  The initial Fail VIR also indicates the last date by which your vehicle can obtain a free retest at the original test center. The Repair Data form must be filled out and signed. The re-test is free during this 30 day period only if it is performed at the same test center that performed the initial test. Retests performed at other test centers and those performed after the 30 day period will cost $20.
