First-Time Failure

What is a Free Re-test?

If your vehicle fails its emissions test, you have 60 consecutive calendar days from the date of the initial test to have your vehicle's emissions problems fixed and pass the one-time free re-test (test number 2).  The initial Fail VIR also indicates the last date by which your vehicle can obtain a free retest. The Repair Data form must be filled out and signed. The re-test is free during this 60 day period and can be performed at any Emissions Test Center. Retests performed after the 60 day period will cost $20.

Vehicle emissions testing is the State's most effective way to improve air quality.
