Fees

How much will it cost to have my vehicle tested?

The test fee for all vehicles is $20 and payable at the Official Emissions Test Center.

Where do I pay for the test?

The $20 test fee is paid at the Official Emissions Test Center.

What forms of payment are accepted when paying for the test?

Any Official Emissions Test Center will accept payment of the $20 inspection fee in any form that the test center customarily accepts for other services. However, some test centers may accept only cash.  These stations must have a sign designating their emission inspection fee as ‘Cash Only’ visible to the approaching motorist.

Why would I be charged a late fee?

A $20 late fee is charged if you are more than 30 calendar days late for your scheduled test date. [Connecticut General Statutes, Title 14 Sec. 14-164c(k)(1)]   You will be sent a separate notice from the DMV concerning payment of the late fee or it will be added to your vehicle’s registration renewal. This late fee is not paid at the test center, but will be billed to you by the DMV.

What is the remittance address for late fees?

State of Connecticut
Department of Motor Vehicles
P.O. Box 801
Bridgeport, CT 06601
