First-Time Failure

What Do I Do Next?

You have 60 consecutive calendar days from the date of the initial test to have your vehicle's emissions problems fixed and pass a re-test. (Read more about your repair options.)

After repairs are made, make sure the repair technician completes and signs the Emissions Repair Data form that was given to you at the Official Emissions Test Center. Keep your receipt(s). Then, take your vehicle and the Emissions Repair Data form to an Official Emissions Test Center for a re-test.

If you return within 60 consecutive calendar days to the test center that originally tested your vehicle, the re-test (test number 2) is free! However, if you are late for the free retest, you will have to pay $20 for a retest (test number 2) and will also incur a $20 Late Fee.

Vehicle emissions testing is the State's most effective way to improve air quality.
