First-Time Failure

My Vehicle Failed the Emissions Test. What Does That Mean?

If your vehicle failed, it is not running properly and is polluting our air. That impacts everyone's health. For more information on how vehicle emissions testing benefits the air, your vehicle, and your health click here.

Over 40% of all air pollution in the State comes from motor vehicles and it's important to keep motor vehicles running properly. The Connecticut Emissions Program works to identify vehicles that are "high emitters" and requires that they undergo repairs, to prevent excessive air pollution. That is why Connecticut and other states use emissions test programs as a tool for compliance with standards of the federal Clean Air Act. You are helping in this effort by getting your vehicle repaired and running clean!
